Fougeres

We spent this morning en route to Mont St. Michel via the eastern part of Briittany. Brittany is the part of France that juts out into the Atlantic and contains one-third of France's coastline. The heritage there is Celtic and the influence from the sea. Local foods are crepes and galettes, hard cider and seafood. We stayed here just long enough for lunch and a stroll through town. The town, of course, contains a defensive chateau and a couple of churches. It also has beautiful gardens with great views through the valley.

Food lesson -- crepes are made with flour and contain sweet fillings. Galettes are made from local buckwheat and stuffed with savory fillings like ham, cheese, mushrooms and eggs. So for lunch we had a galette, a crepe and some cider. Very good. Here's William with his galette and cider from lunch.
