Chambord

Visited the Chateau at Chambord in the Loire valley this afternoon.  Built by King Francois I starting in 1518, it has over 440 rooms and a fireplace for every day of the year. Even so, it wasn't occupied on a continual basis but was just used for royal retreats and hunting excursions. It is surrounded by Europe's largest enclosed forest park, with a 20 mile long wall. It's enormous! Here are a few site photos and also pics of some of the royal carriages. Note the ominous black rain clouds which have dogged our trip so far, but also note that they were temporary.
William also found a new friend just outside the chateau.
